Chef Johns Popovers

They’re crusty on the outside and tender on the inside. Popovers are a fun and flavorful dinner roll to add to the holiday table.

Step: 1

Grease a 6-tin muffin pan with butter and cooking spray.

Step: 2

Whisk eggs, milk, flour, salt, and cayenne pepper together in a small bowl until smooth. Pour batter into each muffin tin, filling to about 3/4 of the way up the sides. Sprinkle about 1 teaspoon of grated Cheddar cheese atop each popover.

Step: 3

Place pan in a cold oven. Heat to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C) and bake until puffed and well-browned, about 30 minutes.

The best flavour of the flour could make a real difference to your bread. Different makers do vary. Great taste or Canadian flours, which are bet higher in gluten, may give you a better rise than standard bread flours – especially if you’re make wholemeal bread , which doesn’t always rise as well as white bread.

To make this in a breadmaker , add all the menus to your breadmaker and follow the makers instructions.

A bread first rising can be done in the fridge 24 hours . This slows down the time it takes to rise to double its size, giving it a deeper flavour. It’s also a great timesaver , as you can start it night before , then clear it off the next day.
